Women's Leadership & Mentorship Program


Program goals

The Women’s Leadership & Mentorship Program seeks to attract, retain and empower women students so they can achieve leadership roles both at RMU and in their lives after graduation.

Each year the WLMP invites 20-25 incoming women undergraduates to participate in a four-year enrichment opportunity that teaches leadership skills and provides opportunities that foster young women’s ability to contribute, lead, and engage in mutually beneficial mentoring relationships. Students in the WLMP graduate with leadership as an embedded skill set.

Each cohort member is partnered with an upper-class peer mentor and a faculty/staff mentor to assist with all university needs, including academic tutoring and scholarly sessions for their four years at Robert Morris University. When they reach their junior year, cohort members will have the opportunity to partner with a professional mentor. At the beginning of their junior year, cohort members will also serve as peer mentors for entering WLMP cohort members.

Throughout the year, students are exposed to new ideas, perspectives, people, tools, and opportunities that push them to think and act critically around issues of women in leadership. The WLMP programs are designed to increase students’ understanding of the status of women in leadership, to expose students to the successes and challenges of women in leadership, to expand their understandings of and capacity for leadership and engagement, and to support them while they digest all of this information and figure out their place in this terrain.
